The University at Buffalo (UB) chapter is pleased to announce a series of victories over this past academic year. Since the union is nothing without its members, we start by celebrating our organizers' work on outreach, one-on-one conversations, and other strategies that have increased our membership density to 53% — the highest UB GSEU has seen in over five years! Additionally, rank-and-file members' participation in the union has been strong, with members turning out to local vigils, protest actions, and social events. In the coming years, we hope to grow and sustain our membership density to 60%, and in turn, grow our leadership team with people who believe in the work we do and our struggle for a better contract and a better workplace.
UB GSEU is also pleased to announce the newly formed RA union, which workers voted overwhelmingly in favor of, with 99% voting YES. This makes UB the latest campus in the state to establish its RAU, following the recent victory at Albany. This now means that all graduate workers, whether their title is TA, GA, or RA, are represented by a union and supported by CWA 1104. As contract bargaining season approaches, we send our best wishes and solidarity to our RAU chapter as they build their collective power and negotiate their own contracts in the coming years.
